Test scenarios introduction

  • Scenarios S-Plane

O-RU using ITU-T G.8275.1 profile (LLS-C3)

The purpose is to validate that Commscope O-RU is correctly synchronized to a timing reference delivering PTP using the ITU-T G.8275.1 profile and that the O-RU correctly collects the status based on the nominal synchronization conditions.

  • Scenarios S-Plane

O-RU Scenario Class Compression Static Format (SFM) Fixed-Point (FP)

The purpose of this test is to validate the correct encoding of IQ data under the following conditions.

RU Static compression configurations
Fixed point IQ data format 16bits
Uplink/downlink

O-RU Scenario Class Compression Non-Static (NS) Block Floating Point

The purpose of this test is to validate the correct encoding of IQ data under the following conditions.

RU dynamic compression configurations
Block Floating Point IQ data format 9,14bits
Uplink/downlink

O-RU Scenario Class Base 3GPP DL

The purpose of this test is to ensure the radio can transmit a basic 3GPP test frame using the default parameters.

O-RU base class TDD test UL

The purpose of this test is to validate the radio can meet the most basic uplink requirements for O-RAN fronthaul, correctly interpreting C-Plane messages and correctly constructing uplink U-plane messages from an RF signal.

Testing Results/Summary

IIn the tests, Commscope O-RU connects to the Keysight O-DU emulator acting as a PTP slave clock. A PTP Master Clock device connects to the Keysight O-DU emulator and generates the stimulus for the O-RU (DUT) and the retrieved sync status of the O-RU meets the mentioned O-RAN specifications.

Commscope test cases mainly focus on the Control and User Plane conformance tests with fixed 16 bits and dynamic 9,14 bits compression configuration. Based on the screenshots of the Commscope O-RU logs and the screenshot of the Keysight Signal Analyzer output, the Radio KPIs (EVM, Power, etc.) measured are inline with that of O-RAN and 3GPP specifications.

O-RU logs and the screenshot of the Keysight Signal Analyzer output, the Radio KPIs (EVM, Power, etc.) measured are inline with that of O-RAN and 3GPP specifications.

Validated the 5G NR Radio Performance for DL and UL tests as outlined in TS 38.141-2.

Benefits for the Industry

  • Validated LLS-C3 synchronization topology with T-TC switch for CU-plane protocol test purposes.
  • Isolated signal-vendor O-RU solution validated with the emulators.
  • The emulators validated with Keysight solution for the O-RAN conformance test.
