The O-RAN plugfest/PoC in East Asia was hosted by NTT DOCOMO, KDDI and SoftBank in Japan and by OTIC labs in China. One set of scenarios focused on multi-vendor interoperability using O-RAN’s open interfaces, while others also involved RAN virtualization and RAN Intelligent Controllers (RIC).

As Outcomes of the East Asia plugfest.

  • It was observed that there is high interest with a good number of companies working on multi-vendor interoperability with O-RAN's open interfaces.
  • Especially, maturity of O-RAN's Open fronthaul and Open X2 specificatons were proven with successful multi-vendor interoperability test results.
  • vRAN and RIC tests were also demostrated, showing promising results. Continued work on these areas are also expected.
