India PlugFest in 2020 , hosted by Bharti Airtel, was a part of the O-RAN ALLIANCE’s second global PlugFest. The demonstrations focused on: O-RU and O-DU interoperability, O-DU fronthaul CUS plane testing, machine-learning-driven coverage and capacity optimization using the Radio Intelligent Controller and the O1 interface, as well as Radio Intelligent Controller interworking with O-eNB over the E2 interface for machine-learning-based uses cases and the open X2 interface for non-standalone deployments.

As Outcomes of the Joint India plugfest

  • Test results shows O-RAN ecosystem is building and certainly need more efforts like this one to enable real plug & Play O-RAN ecosystem.
  • O-RAN ecosystem needs to evolve further to have multiple options to test interoperability for different O-RAN interfaces
  • Co-ordination among multiple partners demonstrating was challenging
  • Despite severe covid19, there was strong commitment to put up plugfest demonstrations
